I'm speaking at BSDCan 2024
In a couple of days I’ll back on a plane, taking the travelling circus to BSDCan 2024 in Ottawa.
I’ll be presenting two sessions:
- Why
fsync()
on OpenZFS canβt fail, and what happens when it does, which despite having exactly the same title as my AsiaBSDCon 2024 presentation, is actually more like the sequel. Then, we were makingfsync()
block instead of returning success. This time, we’re making it return failure instead of blocking. The duality of man. - quiz: tiny VMs for kernel development, where I’ll show off the distinctly non-BSD tool I wrote to help with OpenZFS development, and then show some of my efforts to bring it to FreeBSD by adding direct Linux loading support to bhyve, and maybe more. This one is going to be a bit weird, because for this audience it’s kind of “here’s this thing that you can’t have… yet”.
This one feels like a high-stakes game, because it’s the major BSD conference, and also kind of the “home” conference for Klara. But I know a lot more people now, and have a better sense of what people are interested and how to talk to them, and I’m really looking forward to it. It wasn’t so long ago I felt nervous about leaving the house again; now I’ve kinda got the itch back.
Looking forward to seeing you all π
